Anime NFTs called Azukis gross $300 million in sales volume, surpassing Bored Apes & CryptoPunks.
The Bored Ape Yacht Club and CryptoPunks are now competing for the top spot among NFT collections with 10,000 anime characters.
Azuki, an up-and-coming anime NFT collection, introduced earlier this year and has notched greater than $300 million in sales in the last 30 days alone, giving it the No. 1 spot in digital-collectible trading for the last month, consistent with OpenSea data first reported on by Forbes.
NFTs, which are blockchain-linked digital artworks, have been growing in popularity since early last year, with sales exceeding $41 billion in 2021 alone. The emerging market has been dominated by iconic CryptoPunks and Bored Ape Yacht Club collections a trading volume of at least $1 billion and are in the top 2 for trading volume of all time.
But Azuki, who describes himself as an “internet skater,” is catching up. According to OpenSea, it is now the 8th most traded collection overall with over $344 million in ether sales. A single Azuki sells at least with $ 43,000, the most expensive ones sell for around $500,000, according to DappRadar.
Los Angeles-based designers behind Azuki presented the collection at OpenSea on January 12th. Just four minutes into trading, they tweeted that the collection was sold out. According to Forbes, the Blockbuster initial offering totaled $29 million.
Forbes reported that the creators want Azuki to eventually have an animated series, games & merchandise. Owning an Azuki gives a person membership access to exclusive drops & experiences, as well as a metaverse called “The Garden”.
“An Azuki is your identity withinside the metaverse — let’s build together,” the website says.
