A new decentralized autonomous organization (DAO), called BitMouseDAO, usually wants to genetically modify a mouse to put a bitcoin inside and see its value soar with cryptocurrency, reported vice motherboard. As one of its 2 investors says at the time of writing, say it’s a crazy idea.
Setting up a DAO to get something pretty big & crazy has been seen before. Whether it’s ConsitutionDAO looking to buy a rare copy of the U.S Constitution or BlockbusterDAO wanting to own the brand name and turn it into a streaming platform, we’ve seen some crazy & big ideas before, but BitMouseDAO is at next level.
As with the other DAOs, the identities of the original creators are hidden, but if had to guess, is molecular biology student with a great interest in crypto art. The inspiration for BitMouseDAO, as shown on its webpage, is the bioart of Eduardo Kac, which is a live rabbit genetically modified to emit green fluorescent proteins, intermediary step in many molecular biology experiments.
With BitMouse, its creators want to use a private key to buy Bitcoin, then re-code it using the DNA building blocks, (A, T, G, C) and put that code inside the mouse. Mouse’s value will fluctuate with Bitcoin markets and could reach $100 million or nothing within ten years, the webpage says. Since the mouse has offspring, progeny will also carry private key and would be as valuable as the BitMouse.
The DAO plans to create non-fungible tokens (NFTs) of the original BitMouse and its offspring that will be auctioned off to the highest bidder & earn money for those who support this project now. Interestingly, the creator is also aware that the insertion of a genetic sequence may not occur and has a backup plan to inject a non-lethal virus into the mouse which carries an encrypted copy of the private key. The creator wants to join a biotech company to do all this and will definitely need a lot of funds to start this project as well. Unfortunately, the DAO only has 3 supporters and has just donated over 0.02 ether so far.
Speaking to Vice, the creators of the DAO made it clear that their plan was simply to create a different work of art and not to create a “biochemical monster”. However, based on his current funding status, they might not be able to accomplish anything. Maybe instead of jumping so many hoops to get a BitMouse, it would be easier to let him manage a cryptocurrencies portfolio from a cage. Like Mr. Goxx., could start making a fortune right away, instead of spending a fortune hiding a private key inside.
