The robotic dildo who had the prize at CES 2019 revoked has been reinstated. The annual Consumer Electronics Show awarded the Osé robotic massager with an innovation prize in January, however the award was later taken away and the company was banned from exhibiting.
The consumer technology association (CTA), which decides the prizes, stated at the time that the dildo didn’t technically meet the category in which it was participating. However, the company’s founder, Lora Haddock, claimed that programme displayed gender bias about a piece of technology that is largely targeted at female market.
More awareness of female sexuality is required.
Haddock claimed that the CTA disapproved the product due to its connection with feminine sexuality. The world’s first “hands-free instrument for the holy grail of orgasms — the blended orgasm,” the Osé robotic massager described by Haddock.

CTA backflip on decision
Only a few weeks after receiving the honour, CTA revoked emerging robotics company’s award, claiming that it was ineligible.
“Entries that CTA deems to be immoral, obscene, indecent, profane, or not in keeping with CTA’s image will be disqualified. The CTA noted that it “reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any entry at any time that, in CTA’s judgement, endangers the safety or welfare of any person or is in violation of these Official Rules.”
They now appear to have changed their tune. Jean Foster, a marketing officer at the company, claimed that “the CTA did not manage this award properly.”
This sparked some significant internal and external consultations, and we anticipate using the lessons learned to further enhance the programme.
Robotics company gets two wins
Haddock says she appreciates the CTA’s efforts & hopes that their actions will go-some-way to destigmatize female sexuality.
“The overwhelming love and support we’ve gotten in the wake of our experience underscores the need for substantial reforms, and we are hoping that our small company can continue to contribute meaningful progress toward making CES inclusive for all,” she added.
Further criticism of the organization’s lack of commitment to gender equality was levelled at the decision to prevent the Osé robotic massager from being displayed at CES 2019.
The Osé personal massager will go on sale in the fall of 2019. The business recently disclosed that it has raised an additional $2 million in funding from both new & existing investors, led by Oregon Opportunity Zone Limited Partnership.
