Maca Flight
If you are a Star Wars fan, you must be familiar with the podracing event in Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace. The good news is that we may be closer to such events in real life. You may remember our previous coverage of a flying racing car called the Airspeeder Mk3 & its parent company Alauda Aeronautics’ world first electric flying drag race which took place in November 2020.
Now, there’s another concept of flying race car in the game. French startup Maca Flight unveiled a new hydrogen-powered flying race car concept at CES 2022 & is remarkably similar to podracers in Star Wars universe.
Flying Race Car Concept
Called a carcopter, a portmanteau of the words car & helicopter, the Maca S11 is built for speed & sustainability. And unlike others in its class, it’s powered by a hydrogen fuel cell instead of a conventional battery. The company says eVTOL is priced at just over $900,000 & will be ready to hit the race track in 2023.
The futuristic elements & edgy appearance make the eVTOL look like a flying F1 racer. The S11 is equipped with 3 pairs of electric rotors & 6 electric motors, all powered by hydrogen. The clean-burning hydrogen fuel cells used in eVTOL allow longer flight times & support the sustainability of green energy.
The 7m Racer has a metal frame and a carbon frame, linen & wood. With an expected top speed of 250 km/h, the S11 will only have room for one pilot. In addition, the final product will boast several AI-based detection systems to avoid possible collisions.
As nearly every aspect of our life undergoes a massive transition from traditional to modern, could flying racing cars be the future of the nearly century-old tradition of Formula 1 series?
