Meta announced on Wednesday said that it will expand its partnership with the Central Council for Secondary Education (CBSE) to offer a program on digital security, & online well-being & augmented reality (AR) to more of 10 million students and 1 million educators across the country over the next 3 years.
Additionally, in line with the government’s vision to universalize education, Meta & CBSE will democratize the high school curriculum by allowing students to access quality educational content online through modules that would be available on the CBSE website.
The announcement was made by Meta Founder & CEO Mark Zuckerberg at Meta’s Fuel for India, 2021.
“I’m really excited about this partnership & I think it’s a huge opportunity to (invest-in) this entrepreneurship & bring some of these tools around metaverse & training in the education system here in India “, he said.
The first phase of the ‘FB for Education’ initiative was launched in June 2020, with the aim of preparing students and teachers for the future of work & creating an safe online environment & learning experience.
It witnessed more than 500,000 students show interest in digital security & online well-being and more than 14,000 teachers apply for training in AR.
The partnership will also aim to empower educators with the new tools & skills needed to nurture Gen Z & Generation Alpha students into responsible digital citizens.
Aligned to National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Meta & CBSE will collaborate on content curation & curriculum development that integrate immersive technologies, AR and VR that relevant for evolution for digital landscape, by presenting them as skill subjects for the students.
By integrating augmented reality experiences into the program, students will be able to collaborate more actively & create using emerging technologies of future. Immersive education will also enable students with various learning challenges & lack of access to lab resources to learn in an engaging manner.
CBSE will aim to empower students in underserved areas of India through its Community Skills Centers which bring these new age skills to young people & help them become creators in the digital economy through equitable access to resources.
Dr Biswajit Saha, Director (Skill Education & Skills Training) at CBSE, said the pandemic has impacted everyone’s lives.
“The learning process has under-gone an unforeseen change. This drastic change has brought a wall of challenges to facilitate the learning process. With the help of Meta, we hope to build our online teaching & curriculum capabilities and make them available to students across the country, ”Saha added.
This partnership will help equip our teachers with the requisite skills they need to effectively use online tools for student engagement, Saha noted.
