Elon Musk’s fascination with Dogecoin is well known. From time to time, Musk tweet about “memecoin” as originally planned. Now Musk has gone one step further & tried to get McDonald’s, the global fast food restaurant chain, to accept Dogecoin payments by tweeting.
However, this did not happen by accident. Billy Markus, the co-founder of Dogecoin, had interacted with the McDonald’s Twitter handle last week asking for a fry & the fast food company’s social media handle responded with a picture of a Shiba Inu, Dogecoin’s mascot with fry.
As the interaction ended there, McDonald’s Twitter sent out a mocking tweet given the downtrend cryptocurrencies have been seeing recently.
It was after this that Musk stepped in baiting McDonald’s to start accepting Dogecoin payments. The last time Musk tweeted about this coin was to claim that his own company would accept it as payment for certain merchandise. Billy Markus also chimed in, promising to eat a good meal while watching Musk eat one on TV. Dogecoin’s rating rose 4% right after the tweet.
But the McDonald’s Twitter account didn’t fall for it & instead issued a challenge to Musk.
To clarify, while other chains are attempting to enter the crypto arena, McDonald’s has not released a grimace or any other altcoin of its own.
However, CoinDesk reported that a large number of Grimacecoins have appeared on blockchain networks. The coin had 1,000 holders on Ethereum and its valuation increased by 56,000 percent within hours of its release.
The valuation is likely drop once the hype around tweets dies, but that is the nature of crypto tokens, which can be created at will and see massive rises & falls.
