On Tuesday, global smartphone brand OPPO officially unveiled its AR (Assisted Reality) device called “Air Glass” which comes with a “Spark Micro Projector”, cutting edge Micro LEDs & A bespoke diffraction optical waveguide display that supports user interactions through touch, voice, head movement, & hand movement.
The wearable is built around a “monocle waveguide” design & features smooth curves that provide a light weight & minimalist look.
The device is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2022 in China.
With a total weight of around 30 grams, OPPO Air Glass is one of the lightest monocle waveguide devices in industry and can be worn like a normal pair of glasses, the company announces at its “INNO Day 2021”.
“OPPO has exploring possibilities of Extended Reality (XR) for long time & with Air Glass we finally created a smart glass product that is truly affordable for consumers,” said Levin Liu, Vice President and Director of OPPO Research Institute.
“The easy-to-use screen can present the key messages we need right in front of our eyes. With OPPO Air Glass, the world will never be the same again,” he added.
The lens is secured to a light & thin frame that houses all of the components, including the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100 platform.
The ‘Spark Micro Projector’ is roughly the size of a coffee bean & has a CNC metal en-closure with a glass lens module for better heat dissipation & stability.
The projector is powered by cutting edge micro LED with a brightness of up to 3 million nits.
OPPO Air Glass is designed to be as accessible as possible to as many people as possible, including users with refractive errors such as myopia & hypermetropia, the company said.
The glasses are available in 2 different types of frames, a silver half frame & a black full frame which can better suit users who require corrective glasses.
“Air Glass” can be used using the Smart Glass app on OPPO Watch 2 & any OPPO smartphone installed with ColorOS 11 or above versions.
When the air glass is paired with OPPO watch 2, users can also use hands movements to confirm, cancel, & switch application-cards.
The “Air Glass” is installed with a variety of applications, including those developed by OPPO, including weather, calendar, health, teleprompter, translation & navigation, the company said.
