
The CEO of Uber Dara Khosrowshahi does not closing the door of acceptance of cryptocurrency as payment for his driving business.
“Will Uber going-to accept cryptocurrencies in the future? Absolutely. At some point,” he told Bloomberg. “That’s not the right point.
Khosrowshahi, who took over the company in 2017, said he & his team are constantly discussing the possibility, although some factors are holding them back.
These include the high transaction costs that trading digital assets, as well as the negative environmental impacts associated with crypto-mining.
“As the exchange mechanism becomes cheaper & environmental friendly, I think you’re going to see us leaning a little more towards cryptocurrencies,” he told Bloomberg.
Meanwhile, other mega-cap tech companies like Tesla are considering expanding payment mechanisms to include digital assets.
Crypto promoters have long pushed for Bitcoin & other token treated as a form of payment, although critics have mentioned their price volatility, among other, as reasons to do so.
